Some information could be presented as EITHER a Post or an Event. For example, if there is a coat drive through November, it could be entered as Post OR as a recurring Event that happens every day in November. A 4-part lecture series might be a recurring Event over the course of four weeks, but the content created during the series might then be shared as a series of four Posts as resources for self-directed learning.
Deciding which format to use - Post or Event - depends on:
- How you might want that information to show up, ie, what kind of display - a blog style display or on a calendar or featured event style display
- Where you might want that information to show up - in a newsletter, on the calendar, on a specific page or sidebar, or in specific areas of the front page of the website
- How you’ve set your website up to tag and display similar information
- How long you want the information to display - Events default to disappear once they’ve happened, Posts can be left on your site indefinitely
Some topics or content areas might have both Posts and Events - on Pages!
For example, an Annual Stewardship Campaign Page might include an overview of the theology of giving and share goals for the campaign. Posts might share reflections on stewardship by the clergy or ministry leaders or updates on the progress of the campaign; Events might reflect scheduled stewardship gatherings or deadlines.
