The MV Pro platform People Module allows you to manage information about people associated with your church or organization. In addition to a traditional display of staff members, in a “yearbook style” format, the platform allows you to also embed information about people through the system, on Recordings, Pages, Posts, Events - anywhere you might want to make a relational connection to the content.
People Types
The first thing you will need to decide is what “Types” or groups of people you want to maintain information on. You may want to group all of your employees as “Staff.” Larger organizations may want to break out “Clergy” and “Staff.” Many organizations also create additional people Types depending on their specific needs such as:
- Leadership
- Vestry/Council
- Ministry Leaders
- Guest Musicians
- Guest Speaker
- School Staff (or other stand-alone ministry)
By creating a People type in which you create entries for your non-staff leadership, you are making a relational connection to the ministries and content areas on your site to the people who facilitate them and elevating the work of your volunteers!
People Entry
You will need to gather good quality photos of everyone you want to include.
Photos should be portrait perspective (vertical) and all photos should be similarly cropped – for example, use photos that display everyone’s head and shoulders, rather than some head and shoulders and some full body. Around 650-850 pixels is a good standard.
Notes and Suggestions for People Entries:
- 'Display Name' is where honorifics should be included.
- First Name: Gail and Last Name: McKay could be shown as a Display Name: Rev. Dr. Gail McKay, with a Title: Dean.
- Middle names or initials should be included in the 'First Name' field.
- First Name: Luis Enrico and Last Name: Perez.
- Hyphenated last names should be entered in 'Last Name': Willington-Smith
- 'Title' can also be used to use other qualifying information such as a year of service or commission assignment.
- 'Description' is a great place to indicate what people like to be called. So The Rev. Canon Mary Louise Fallon might include an opening line in the description of her entry “Please call me Mother Mary.”
- 'Description' is also where biographical information is entered.
- Social media accounts are recommended for people whose social media is connected to their official role or the ministry/content area they are associated with.
- 'Website' allows for the person to share a connection to a blog or other personal site, such as a musician’s page, that they maintain.
People Displays and Uses Throughout the Website
People displays are either vertical or horizontal.
Vertical:
Horizontal:
The order in which people are displayed is either alphabetical or by user designated order. This allows you to enter people in the order you want them to display. So for example, a display of a leadership commission might list the officers first and the rest of the members in alphabetical order.
For single person displays, such as a contact for a particular ministry, the person may be shown in the sidebar or embedded on the page, as seen below.
Additional Locations Involving People
People are assigned to every podcast recording that is entered. This is a required field for each podcast entry.
People can also be assigned as the author(s) of posts. This is not a required field, but is encouraged for blog curation or similar endeavors.
