The robust tagging capability of the MV Pro platform is what allows the integration of dynamic and static content.
There are two parts to tagging:
- The Tag, which is based on Page name, that is used to group a particular subset of Posts or Events.
- The Content Block that indicates where similarly tagged items should display and how they should display. Typically these Content Blocks are placed on the front page of the website, on a Page, or in a Sidebar that is associated with multiple Pages.
Posts & Events Don’t Display Together
While Posts and Events may be tagged using the same Page name, they require distinct Content Blocks to display them. In other words, you may have Posts and Events both tagged “Children & Youth” but must have two separate Content Blocks to display Children & Youth Posts and Children & Youth Events.
This has to do with the way information is sorted in the system - Posts show the most recently entered Post first, followed by increasingly older Posts. Events show the soonest upcoming Event, with following Events stretching out into the future.
News & Events - a great example of same TAG, different location
A Strategy for Tagging is Necessary to Avoid Confusing Tags
If you tag a Post or an Event with a Page name but do NOT have a Content Block somewhere on the website displaying items tagged as such, the Post or Event won’t show up anywhere based on that tag. Additionally, if you add multiple tags, the only tags that trigger any action are those that correspond to a Content Block. Extraneous tags can be a source of confusion, so it’s important to have a clear strategy indicating which Page names you will use to tag AND making sure you have a Content Block somewhere on the site that shows items tagged in that way. The system will not prevent you from tagging Posts with any page name as a tag, so again, it’s important to only choose the Page names as tags that are associated with a Content Block somewhere on the website.
